4 stars. Book 6 in the excellent Sparks & Bainbridge series. Twisty mystery that reveals more about our favorite matchmakers as they solve yet another murder. Gwen and Iris are such good characters-fully drawn with quirks and back stories that are revealed a little more in each book. I like the series and in this one our intrepid duo find themselves in it again with the mysterious discovery of a body in a wall!
Setting up a New Years Eve gala turns into a whiz bang of a story that had me up late turning pages. Usually a series that hits book 6 will start to flag a bit, lose focus, or become convoluted as the author tries to keep up the excitement and promise of the first few books. NOT a problem here-Montclair writes with total control over all aspects of the plot outline that keeps the quality of the series intact.
The intertwined investigations (yes, there are several things going on all at once!) are sneaky and you already know I guessed wrong on who actually did it and why-I was fooled in a good way. I was given a copy of the book and my own opinion is that it is definitely an ‘otter’ read!
