Peril in Paris by Rhys Bowen

Book sixteen in the excellent Royal Spyness Mystery series. In this one, Georgie (Mrs. Darcy O’Mara or Lady Georgiana Rannoch) is blissfully happily married. Pregnancy is agreeing with her so Darcy suggests a trip to Paris. Georgie will get to see her friend Belinda and take in the sights while Darcy does some super secret spy stuff that probably involves German/Nazi intrigue. But, Georgie will be quite safe and out of the excitement…we, dear reader, know better; don’t we! Fashion week is upon our characters and Coco Chanel decides Georgie must model one of her creations. Several books ago we learned this is a terrible idea-it is in this book as well. Darcy asks Georgie to do a simple little spy thing: retrieve something at the fashion show and hand it off. Of course there is murder most foul and our Georgie must face off against the French police to find the culprit, before she is thrown into jail as the murderer. Lots of twists and turns as the plot moves along. There are old friends, new friends and an old enemy that might not be as bad as we all thought. I enjoyed this book; I enjoy all of Rhys Bowen’s work. The best part was watching Georgie and Darcy navigate their new lives as prospective parents. There is still a lot of life in the series and I can’t wait for book seventeen.
