The Swifts by Beth Lincoln

Quirky and so much fun! Shenanigan Swift can’t help her name-every Swift is given a name and definition from the sacred family dictionary to grow up to match. Yes, dear reader, it’s going to be that kind of book. Shenanigan is one of the best characters I’ve ever read, a cross between Wednesday Addams and Pippi Longstocking. There are relatives with issues, like every family, a treasure hunt, and murder. Wait-murder? Yep, there is vile skulduggery afoot for Shenanigan to solve as she figures out who she is and if Shenanigan defines her. Very well done with lots of action, plot twists all over the place. It takes a chapter to get into the naming and keeping track of who is who but once you ‘get it’ you will be enthralled with the story and keep reading way past your bedtime. Middle graders will devour this book but it’s sophisticated enough for older readers and anyone who enjoys a well written plot that has been compared to Clue. 4 great big fat stars-you ‘otter’ be reading this book! I was given a copy to review.
