A Noble Cunning: The Countess and the Tower by Patricia Bernstein

Two stars for a pretty good historical fiction based on the true story of Winifred Maxwell and the rescue of her husband from the Tower of London. In this book, Bethan Glentaggart races to the rescue of her husband with the help of her friends, in a time where women were supposed to be still and let the men handle things. The plot moves along fairly well but some of the situations are over the top and Bethan wavers between damsel in distress and bad ass ninja. There was a TON of detail and info dumps; I got lost several times trying to keep track of who was who and which King was which. I see what Bernstein was going for but it would have worked better for me if it was less historically based and just a whiz bang rescue story. I received a copy from #LibraryThing, this is my own opinion.
