Paradise-1 by David Wellington

4 great big fat stars for sci-fi and horror done the right way. Buckle up for this one, folks; it grabbed me by the throat on page one and didn’t let go-what a ride!! Alexandra Petrova, agent for Firewatch (police, Ganymede-awesome!) is sent to investigate colony planet Paradise-1 after they stop communicating with Earth. Arriving in the sector, she and Doctor Zhang Lei are literally thrown from their exploding cryopods as their ship is under a devastating attack, but why and by who or what? The story, which is excellent so far, then ramps up into a harrowing, non-stop cracking good yarn. Spaceships, explosions, robots, artificial intelligence, danger at every turn, more explosions, secrets, betrayals, and terrifying weirdness…this book has it all and more. It is one of my best reads so far in 2023, short chapters that zip along and you WILL be up all night reading and also afraid to go to sleep-it’s that good. Do NOT miss this book; I received a copy but it’s so good I would gladly have paid to read it. Well done!
